South Devon is renowned for being one of the most beautiful places to visit in the UK. Stunning coastline, wild grasslands and sandy coves can all be found around the Torquay area.

South Devon was designated as an AONB (an area of outstanding natural beauty) by the Government in 1960, the purpose of which is to protect areas of landscape and coast with special character by law, so that future generations can also enjoy them. Covering 60 miles of rugged coastline, remote estuaries, thriving villages and beautiful countryside between Torbay and Plymouth, the area continues to be enjoyed by thousands of visitors to Devon every year. As a coastal holiday destination water is a defining feature of the South Devon AONB with so many magnificent viewpoints.

Popular with both locals and visitors alike it offers sport, recreation, quiet contemplation and sheer pleasure, being part of a rich tapestry of local culture and ancient history. Land owners and planners are encouraged to follow guidance from organisations such as Natural England, the Environment Agency and English Heritage on the way they manage the use of their land, so everyone can enjoy the features within it.

Habitats for wildlife such as seals, dolphins and bats, include the salt marshes, hedge banks, woodlands, reed beds and coastal grasslands. Public access to areas is important, but protection of the many wildlife species is always paramount. On the cliffs above Berry Head, between March and July you can find the largest breeding colony of Guillemots on the Channel Coast. Marine plants and animals flourish in the more out of sight areas, during calm seas between April to October it is possible to spot basking sharks and turtle migrations along the whole of the South Devon coastline.

With a packed events programme of walks, trails and workshops to enjoy across the AONB, there's sure to be something for everyone throughout the year if you are considering a holiday in Torquay. Planning your days out comes easy with so much to see and do whether you are a family, a lone traveller or a couple enjoying a break away.

Special favourites are the South West Coastal path which runs directly through Torquay offering visitors the chance to enjoy a mix of beautiful scenery, local culture and stretches of the coast all in one walk. The walk along the grassy headlands of Hope's Nose rolls seamlessly into the fascinating history of Torre Abbey and Torquays most famous resident Agatha Christie. It's then onwards past Abbey Sands beach, over rugged steps round the headland to Daddyhole Plain and Meadfoot Beach. Follow signs to the 'not to be missed' attraction of Kents Cavern, famous throughout the world for its prehistoric caves. After your visit there allow time to enjoy Anstey's Cove, a favourite coasteering location for the young and energetic. From there make your way towards the magnificent viewpoint of Wall's Hill, then finish your walk at Babbacombe. Here you can rest and enjoy a well deserved Devon Cream Tea in one of the quaint tearooms typical of the area!

All-inclusive vacation packages are some of the most popular travel packages offered by travel agencies and resorts. Looking back at when all-inclusive travel emerged, it was in the 1950s that Club Med resorts introduced an all-inclusive offering. Over the years, different resorts have altered the model depending on the services they choose to offer -- this means that you can't simply make an assumption because each package will vary from resort to resort.

What do all-inclusive packages actually include?

Many all-inclusive vacation packages cover the same basic staples, and here are some of the fairly standard items include the following:

three meals a day
alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
transport services
sports facilities and equipment
instructors for sports like water aerobics, archery, and swimming
And some resorts even offer the following:

spa treatments
live shows
24/7 room service
laundry
airport transfers
We often get swayed by the "All Inclusive" sign on a deal thinking that this might be the best available at the quoted prices, forgetting to focus on the tiny asterisk that could literally cost us a fortune later. It is highly important to list all the things you need and don't need and then do your homework on the various packages offered in order to select the best one suited for your needs.

And what's not necessarily included?

The following are some of the things one must remember before booking an all-inclusive vacation:

No airfare - Most of the packages do not include airfare and one must be prepared to shell out for their own tickets.
Airport transfers - While some vacation resorts do offer free airport transfers for their all-inclusive packages, some -- like those in the Dominican Republic -- can charge up to $30 per transfer.
Limited alcohol - You should be aware that many of the hotels do not offer an all-you-can drink pass, and at some you might have to pay if you want an upgrade from a simple wine to a champagne-based cocktail. Premium brands of alcohol are also often an extra charge.
Sports - While most non-motorized sports facilities are included in these packages, several trademark destination-based activities like snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing and zip-lining are not included in the all-inclusive packages.
Services like babysitting, dry cleaning, tour excursions, and beauty treatments are also not included in all-inclusive vacation packages.
None of the packages include honeymoon and anniversary specials, nor are birthday parties included.
Room service - Although integral to almost all hotels, room services might not be included in your vacation package. In fact, some hotels might even charge you extra for having your meals delivered to your room.
Internet - While it is downright preposterous that one has to pay for wireless in the 21st century, unfortunately some resorts do charge you for connecting to their Wi-Fi services. Some resorts might have complimentary internet services in the lobby but be mindful of any that may surprise you at the end of yours stay with a wi-fi charge.
Hopefully this list helps you better prepare for your all-inclusive vacation!

So you're not only content with seeing all the beautiful people walking around the streets of Stockholm, you want to stay somewhere beautiful but boutiqish too? Don't worry, Stockholm's trendy hoteliers got you covered.

1. Miss Clara by Nobis: Hosted in a building originally used as a girls-school, Miss Clara is Stockholm's newest designer hotel and puts you right in the mix of things in central Stockholm. If you've already found somewhere to stay, I can still recommend trying out the restaurant!

2. Lydmar Hotel: Located just opposite the Royal Castle on the waterfront of Stockholm's perhaps most beautiful street, Lydmar Hotel disappoints no one and has been a hang-out for the elite for more than a decade. This is also a hotel where the service will stop short of almost nothing to get you satisfied with your stay.

3. Story Hotel: If you are looking for contemporary, look no further; and if you're looking for a busy and cool hotel bar, then you've come to the right place. Wednesday through Saturday a DJ spins the plates so be prepared to want to go to bed late.

4. Hotel Rival: With Bjorn of ABBA as one of the owners, it is no surprise Hotel Rival attracts the cultural and hip folks of Sodermalm. If Sodermalm is your thing, then Hotel Rival is definitely the place to stay.

5. Hotel Nobis: Housed at the centrally located Norrmalm's-square which came to see the drama later giving rise to the term "the Stockholm Syndrome", Nobis competes with Lydmar as the mother of all Stockholm design hotels and receives nothing but great customer reviews.

6. Berns Hotel: The small Berzeli-park is a small oasis in the center of Stockholm, and provides the focal point for guests staying at stylish Berns Hotel. Berns has a famous night club and concert stage which caters many of the more intimate gigs played by world-known artists, upon visiting Stockholm.

7. Nordic Light Hotel: Conveniently located by the Arlanda Express departure at Stockholm Central Station, the Nordic Light Hotel caters for travellers looking for the genuine minimalistic form of expressions that has made Nordic design famous throughout the world.

8. Lilla RÃ¥dmannen: This cute little family-oriented hotel is located in the tranquil neighbourhoods of Vasastan and only a few yards away from all-time favourite burger place "Flippin' Burgers".

9. Hotel Diplomat: If you want the continental feeling, in this (one of) the most northern of capitals, look no further than Hotel Diplomat, where celebrities mix with business travellers in the sofa's and where the Sunday brunch can cure even the wildest of Saturday nights.

10. Hotel Hansson: Travellers looking for a laid back atmosphere in a "living-room" styled hotel-lobby should book a room at Hotel Hansson. The hotel is located right where you want to be, and provides amble opportunities for discovering central Stockholm.

Last but not least, I can recommend booking these hotels through http://www.gopolitan.com which also gives you cash back on your booking, to spend on something nice.

Bed and breakfast accommodation, or B&B - as it is popularly called, makes for a good replacement of a stay in any hotel or inn. Though quite small in size, compared to hotels and motels, a B&B generally provides a pleasant experience to the guests. Since B&Bs do not accommodate many guests, they can take better care of them.

True to its name, a B&B arrangement offers one bed plus breakfast, without any extra charge, meaning it is included in the rental. Many would offer the usual continental breakfast, comprising of eggs, cereals, fruits and pastries, but there are many places offering exceptional meals. Some are reputed for offering a fantastic meal, prepared by professional cooks. Surely, there are certain B&Bs offering the facility of made-to-order breakfast, though most have a permanent menu, and the guests are allowed to choose their favorites and to inform the management accordingly. In case you are on a special diet, or you are allergic to any kind of foods, you should check before hand with the innkeeper if they could accommodate you; in most cases, they would.

If you opt to visit a new place, to which you are not familiar, you can certainly seek help from the innkeeper, who will be more than pleased to provide any information. Usually, you'll find B&Bs to have the menus of local bars and restaurants, allowing you to conveniently decide the restaurants offering the kind of food you may prefer for lunch or dinner. Often, you'll find a B&B offering deals on tickets for local attraction at discounted prices. You may get your ticket booked at the time of booking the room.

B&B arrangements are a great option for special occasions or romantic escapades. Many offer special romance packages as part of the deal, or add the same as bonuses. Such packages may include quite many things, varying from Champagne plus chocolates and fresh flowers, to massages or spa arrangement for two, and even carriage rides in the area surrounding the inn. Given the lifestyle that most people have these days, it is really difficult to afford a long vacation. The next best option is to spend your weekend at some B&B to have a wonderfully relaxed time.

You can search for B&Bs on the net. You can go through the reviews of other guests and be prepared for what to expect. When traveling with kids and pets, you should check the policies of the inn beforehand to avoid any embarrassment. You should also check up if any discounts are available, since many offer discount for long stays or stays during the weekdays.

The charges of B&Bs would vary a lot, according to the location and the level of services they provide. You can expect to get one for around $100/night, but then there are B&Bs that charge as high as $500!

Palm Cove is a very pretty resort sitting in North Queensland and about 25 minutes away from the rather better known Cairns.

Generally speaking, most there is what might be termed luxury to up-market in orientation. This isn't a huge resort and although it has undergone considerable expansion over recent decades, nevertheless, it retains a quiet charm for much of the year.

There is a bus service from the resort to the relatively nearby Cairns, though at the time of writing, there is no service to the slightly more distant town of Port Douglas.

So, who will be looking for Palm Cove accommodation and who will be inclined to like this stretch of the coast?

There is certainly plenty to do in and around the water and local surrounding countryside during those long hot days. For people that enjoy watersports, walking, and fitness-related pastimes, this can be something of a haven.

Now it is true that this coastal area does have advisories up at certain times of the year relating to local crocodiles and stingers in the sea but if you follow local guidelines and stay within marked areas, you should have no problems.

Even if you don't fancy the beach, most major accommodation sites here will have their own extensive water features. You can also find plenty of regular boat trips that will take you out to the Great Barrier Reef for some incomparable swimming and scuba opportunities.

Also available in the area are tours of local rainforests and aboriginal cultural areas, ballooning, horse trekking and some really great walking.

Remembering that this is probably regarded by most as a quiet and discreet resort for the discerning holidaymaker, don't expect riotous evening entertainment and a 'drink until you keel over senseless' culture in the streets at night. If you are looking for urban mayhem for your evening's entertainment then this is not going to be the resort for you.

What is on offer here is a great selection of excellent restaurants, cafes and bars (around 18 in number at the time of writing) serving a wide variety of cuisines but mostly with a distinctive Australian touch. There are some really good restaurants and some of the beach bars offer an ambiance that you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere else.

Some people describe this resort as the Cairns of 30 or 40 years ago. That's open to debate!

Certainly, it doesn't have quite as much in terms of civic amenities as its bigger and better known neighbour just along the Coast but it more than compensates for that in terms of its authenticity and relaxed charm.

Will you like it?

If you enjoy quiet but luxurious surroundings with a touch of tropical exoticness, then this place is going to appeal to you. If you prefer to have a rather more dynamic urban feel to your holiday with lots of shops and facilities on your very doorstep then you might be perhaps better looking at a holiday location in or close to Cairns itself.

This location normally scores quite highly on travellers' reviews and given the tendency for reviewers to be those with 'something to say' and who are perhaps inclined towards harsh realism, well, that is quite a testament to the attractions of the area.

So, if it sounds like the place for you, find yourself some Palm Cove accommodation and check this area out for yourself. You're unlikely to regret it.

Find your perfect accommodation FNQ Apartments offer spacious and luxurious one, two and three bedroom holiday apartments in palm cove is most demanded for families and couples looking for a package holiday.

The vast majority of people regard their wedding day as one of the most special events of their life.

Nobody really disputes that ultimately the only two things essential for a memorable day are the two people concerned but of course, their vows need to be set into a background context of enjoying others, such as families and friends, sharing a special day with them.

In a nutshell, that's why wedding venues are important.

What makes ideal wedding venues?

There's no set answer because different couples will have very different requirements and expectations but there may be certain of those that are common to many.

Ambiance

This is hard to define but it's about a sense of place and surroundings. Locations that have lovely grounds and nice views always go down well with guests and add a certain something to your big day.

The internals of your selected room or rooms are also important. Generally, it's perhaps more to modern tastes if venues are luxurious but intimate rather than vast and cathedral-like. If the venue is too big and too 'cold' in its scale then it can be intimidating.

That can act as a damper on the festivities.

The best in catering

Imaginary catering fiascos at weddings can be hilarious in the movies but are much less so if you're on the receiving end of one in real life.

It's imperative that your guests have not only the best food but also that which offers a degree of diversity given today's tendency for people to have very specific dietary needs and preferences.

Catering flexibility as well as culinary excellence at weddings is highly desirable for that reason.

Facilities

Your guests won't be able to sit there eating all day long. They'll want to stretch their legs - even if the wedding is carrying on to dancing in the evening.

So, having somewhere people can walk around (and perhaps do other things too) is a great idea. If there are also facilities to keep younger children entertained then so much better - unless you want them running riot around your main reception hall.

Also, don't forget the weather when selecting wedding venues. Adelaide and surrounding areas is n't always forgiving in that respect. Try to ask questions of the venue relating to just how you and your guests will cope if you're unlucky with the weather.

Look for plenty of internal spaces because your guests might not be able to spend much time outside if the weather's not great.

Service

If there is one day in your life that you should n't have to put up with shoddy service and 'attitude' it's on your wedding day.

Make sure that your chosen venue has an impeccable track record in that respect. You'll be able to verify that by taking up references and doing some online research - though remember to look at independent review sites rather than exclusively at the venue's own site testimonials.

All-in-one service

You can make all your own individual arrangements if you wish though that can add huge stress or you can let someone like the best man act as a project manager - though that can sometimes add even more stress!

If you're going for a seamless and professional looking wedding then you may wish to select wedding venues that are also able to offer a total service including things such as flowers, entertainment, catering and so on. Let a professional wedding service take at least some of the work off your shoulders, thereby allowing you to concentrate on enjoying your day.

Belairpark Country Club is a perfect venue for all kinds of events. It is one of the most elegant wedding venues in Adelaide, proving world class catering and other service to make your day more memorable. For more information please go through the website http://belairparkcountryclub.com.au/

For centuries, Linen has been serving a vast range of necessities in our world. It is a textile derived from flax plants. The name Lenin is from Latin name for flax plant, Linum. Linens are considered one of the oldest textiles of history dating to about 8000 BC. The prime factor that made Linen stand the test of time is its longevity. Linen manufacturing is very time consuming process, nevertheless is vogue and appears extravagant and gorgeous at the end.

Although the use of linen has changed dramatically over the years, the basic element of it that never changed is its dominance in clothing industry. It is widely used in producing a numerous range of fabrics such as towels, bed sheets, tablecloths, napkins etc. It has been also extensively used in women's apparel for ages. There has been a slight depression in demand for Linen during 1970s, but it incrementally rose to 70% by 1990s for its quality. It is now a symbol of luxury and status.

Linen keeps the heat under control for the wearer. The bed sheets made of Linen are weather conditioned - they are warm in winters and cool in summers - such is its efficiency. Pure linen that is made from natural flax fibers or 100% linen is the best material for clothing.

Linen weave made of cotton, hemp and other non-flax fibers are called as Linens too. Clothing pertaining to Bed, Bath and Kitchen favor the Linens that are united with cotton for its affordability and absorb-ability. These have a huge market in Hotels, Restaurants, Hospitals, Assisted Living Facilities, Churches, Weddings, Hospitality and Healthcare Industries. The main reason for these renowned industries to opt Linens for their services is their durability, strength, flexibility and yet being extremely comfortable for customers and for their staff to launder it. Frequently used fabrics such as Hotel Bed Sheets, Hotel towels, Hotel Linens, Restaurant Linens, Hospitality Linens, Napkins, Table Linens - all are commonly made of Linens but different types. The change in the style of weaving differentiates one linen from another.

Let us look into a few types of linens and their uses.

Mercerized - The feel of cotton and make of linen makes it dual advantage as it offers the softness of the antique fabric and durability of cotton. Even after a series of washes, it still holds the same quality making it a perfect value for money.

Damask Linen Fabric - Do you want a touch of luxury then go for Damask. Damask Linen fabric is woven in plain and satin weaves, which has an extra soft texture on the fabric that is smooth and pleasant to feel. The stand out feature of this fabric usually comes in single color - mostly blue or red or both - with very fine design on it and in reversible pattern.

Plain-Woven Linen Fabric - This is the most used fabric for cleaning glassware. It is famously called as Glass Toweling. This one is a loosely woven fabric, which makes it a best water absorbing fabric and thus its domination in cleaning services. There are again many types under Plain-woven linen fabric - each having its own purpose. Holland Linen is used in making windshields and Lamp shades for it is opaque and thick enough to block sun-rays entering inside. Cambric Linen is another plain-woven fabric that is used in making of handkerchiefs and lingerie as it is the thinnest woven fabric of all. Butcher's linen as the name has it, is used by butchers as aprons because of its strong plain weave. These fabrics are rigid and hard textured, capable of withstanding the harshest of stains.

Loosely Woven Linen - These are the most absorbent fabrics among the rest Linen fabrics. There are again variations under this Linen to serve a range of necessities. Bird's eye linen and Huck-aback Linen are widely accommodated for its geometric designs and delicate requisites such as diapers and sanitary towels.

Sheeting Linen - Sheeting Linen is used to manufacture Bed Sheets. It has highest demand in service-based industries and is commonly preferred for Hotel bed sheets. Egyptian cotton is the most desired sheeting for its luxurious experience, real Egyptian cotton is grown in Egypt under careful supervision and is hence, extremely soft and also durable. Buyers have to be vigilant in buying an Egyptian cotton because there are more false ones than originals in the market.

Toweling - These linens are specifically used for producing towels of different sizes and lengths for Hotels and Restaurants for hotel towels, restaurant napkins and bathroom linens. They are made after exact and accurate measurements to give the guest the best experience of touch, feel and usability.

How do you know whether the linen you bought is genuine, reliable and superior in quality? The quality of linen is measured in GSM - grams per square meter. With the weight of the Linen fabric, you can determine its perfection. The higher the number of GSM, the better is the quality of linen fabric. Before going to buy a linen fabric, it is wise to do some research on GSM levels. Typically for a towel linen, 400-600 GSM indicates a fabric of medium quality, anything under 400 GSM is thinner and of cheap quality. Levels higher than 600 GSM are considered luxurious, super absorbent and superior quality fabrics. For Bed linens, 160 to 200 GSM is recommended. GSM level below 140 is again not of good quality and is best to ignore. Linens of lesser GSM levels get a hard workout and lose parts of fabric every time it is laundered.

Now, comes the toughest part - a good wholesale linen supplier. To elect a good supplier becomes a challenge when the market is as broad as the linen market. To select the best wholesale linen supplier, one has to reconsider the above discussed factors. Test the knowledge of the supplier, being cognizant is the only way to discover the best wholesale linen supplier and master the art of linen purchase.

* If you do need to buy hotel linens at wholesale, avoid buying at retail price. Brick-and-mortar stores often have special discounts available.

With a bit of planning and research, it is possible to reduce your hotel expenses when you buy hotel linens in bulk.

You can find many other institutional linens at wholesale price. We supply nationwide commercial linen supplies to motels, hotels, restaurants, assisted living facilities, golf clubs and many more. Contact us today for more information.

Picture a cypress-lined road in Tuscany. Now picture yourself arriving at a 10th-century former castle on more than 4,000 acres of rolling hills. Welcome to Castello di Casole, a new 41-suite hotel that already ranks as No. 2 in the world.

We asked our readers to vote in the 18th annual World’s Best Awards for properties like Castello di Casole that have won them over—weighing in on categories such as rooms, location, service, food, and value. The resulting list is not only a go-to hotel resource for planning your next trip, but also reveals the destinations that are important now.

One of the most exciting trends is the desire to get off the grid. For the first time this year, Four Seasons Resort Bora-Bora and the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand (tied at No. 5) debuted among the top 10 hotels overall for their respective regions. And T+L readers crowned a new No. 1 hotel: Mombo Camp and Little Mombo Camp in Botswana.

Luckily, there are plenty of amazing places to stay closer to home. U.S. properties represent nearly 20 percent of the top 50 list, from Triple Creek Ranch (No. 13), with 23 intimate cabins with wood-burning fireplaces in western Montana to Elizabeth Pointe Lodge (No. 25) on Amelia Island, FL, with its turn-of-the-century-inspired décor and enormous marble soaking tubs.

Whether you’re ready for a nature retreat or eager to pound the pavement of Hong Kong, Berlin, or Beverly Hills, there’s a property for you among the World’s Best Hotel winners. Read on, and let the daydreaming begin.

You’re lounging in an airy villa—with rain showers and a plunge pool fed by natural hot springs—in the Costa Rican rainforest. A personal host tends to your every need, whether arranging a wildlife-spotting hike or a private yoga lesson in the open-air studio. It’s just another unforgettable day at Nayara Springs, one of the top-rated hotels.

For 19 years and counting, we’ve asked T+L readers to vote for their favorite hotels and resorts, evaluating them in categories like value, food, service, rooms, and location. More than just a list of the best properties, the World’s Best Awards results also highlight bigger travel trends—including where you, as a community, are going.

A significant number of this year’s winners are close to home, with the share of U.S. properties growing by more than 19 percent over last year. Three of the top 10 hotels overall are in the U.S.—in 2013, there were none. Triple Creek Ranch, in Darby, MT, holds the No. 1 spot; Ocean House, in Watch Hill, RI, is No. 5, followed by the Langham Chicago at No. 6.

Chicago has a prominent place among large urban hotels (100 rooms or more) in the U.S., with four of the top 10, while Charleston, SC, dominates the category of urban hotels with fewer than 100 rooms.

The total number of Caribbean properties also doubled over last year, yet readers are still finding time to visit far-flung places. A third of the top 50 hotels are in Australia, Africa, and Asia. Notably, Southern Ocean Lodge, on Australia’s Kangaroo Island, comes in at No. 4 overall. South Africa and Udaipur, India, each have two top-10 properties, including, respectively, Singita Sabi Sand (up to No. 7 from last year’s No. 10 spot) and Taj Lake Palace (No. 10, up from No. 29).

Of course, you’ll also find plenty of world-class options in European destinations—Paris, Budapest, Florence, you name it—plus dream-worthy resorts in Mexico and Hawaii.

We dare you to read about the World’s Best Hotel winners and not immediately start planning your next getaway.

Stars are often used to give ratings to services and products, and typically the system consists of 1 to 5 stars. 1 is the lowest, and 5 is the best-5 stars good, 1 star bad. So if a movie got a rating of 4 stars, you might be willing to give it a try, and if a restaurant received a rating of 2 stars you might consider eating somewhere else. After all, even if watching a movie and eating out can both potentially be negative experiences and a waste of money, a bad movie can be something to laugh about while food poisoning isn't.

The star ratings system is arbitrary, and there's no standard star system that everybody uses. The way that the ratings work can differ from country to country, within a local district, from different services and personal preference.

Restaurant and movie ratings may also make use of other symbols like letter grades or icons. But despite the flexible nature of ratings systems, hotels almost always use a star rating and it's well established that 5 star hotels are the most luxurious and provide the most quality services. 1 star and 2 star hotels aren't necessary run down and overrun with rats, but the provisions will be limited. A 1 star hotel will provide you with the basic necessities like a bed and bathroom, essentially providing you just with a place to stay.

2 star hotels will offer additional services like a phone and a TV. 3 star will provide room service, valet parking, a fitness centre, a pool, and breakfast, sometimes lunch and dinner as well. 4 stars has more furnishing and dining and entertainment options, and finally 5 star hotels are the whole shebang with jacuzzis, concierge, gourmet food and the like. You don't just stay at a higher end hotel; you enjoy more accommodating services that make your visit a comfortable and entertaining experience.

But of course, to enjoy all of the extra perks you'll have to pay, literally. 5 star hotels are much more expensive than standard hotels, although some might argue that you actually save money by booking trips at luxurious hotels. This is because you're getting a lot considering the amount you're paying. Overall, however, if you consistently stay at 5 star you'll definitely spend more money than you would be if you consistently booked standard hotels. So you might consider a 5 star hotel only when you want to splurge and indulge yourself, which we should all do once in a while.

For many of us, the subject of price is important when we are taking our annual holiday.

Whilst we may not object to paying a little extra for our luxury hotel, sometimes it can be a little bit of a shock to find higher prices in local resort holiday shops and restaurants etc.
So, what's going on and what can you do about it?

The first thing is that of course there is a simple question of economics here. People on holiday are perhaps a little more inclined to open up their wallets and purses for the sake of having a good time than they would be back home. That means they may be willing to pay slightly higher prices and therefore to some extent, local businesses might understandably wish to take advantage of that.

It's worth remembering also that some of our native resorts only have a few weeks peak income-earning potential each year, so it's a question of 'making hay while the sun shines' so to speak.

In other situations, geography can play a part too. Resorts that are relatively isolated and not close to any major conurbations may, understandably, incur higher distribution costs when having food and basic living supplies delivered.

So, the commercial infrastructure's cost base might be higher and those higher costs will need to be passed onto visitors.

However, you don't have to necessarily assume that you can do nothing at all about this.

If you are staying in luxury accommodation, the chances are that there will be a number of shops and eating establishments relatively close by. Those that are in prime tourist locations (typically cute harbour-sides, coastal promenades or trendy town-centres) are by definition likely to be a little more expensive than those on one of the side streets or the outskirts of the town.

So, to put it another way, if you don't like paying a few dollars extra for your meal or stuff in the shops then just stretch your legs a little and the chances are you'll be able to find something much more reasonably priced.

Another thing you can do, assuming it's possible for you, is to travel a little out of season.

At peak holiday times, the pressure on resorts can be high and prices will almost inevitably rise as a result. Assuming you can synchronise it with things like school holidays, travelling outside of those peak times can yield you some fantastic bargains both in terms of your luxury hotel and in local shopping and dining out etc.

At the risk of sounding like an apologist for the domestic travel industry, if you look at the statistics you'll see that business is tough and their profit margins are typically very small. They are hardly 'raking it in' and living a champagne lifestyle based on the few extra dollars here and there that they may be charging over and above the prices you see back home.

So, shop around and try and be flexible when you travel but above all just accept that slightly higher prices may be an inevitable consequence of taking that annual holiday.

FNQ Apartments has the most perfect location of all domestic holidays in Australia, offers a unique foreshore location with all the facilities and services you expect from your Port Douglas holiday accommodation.

Websites that compare the prices of multiple hotels seem to provide great deals. In truth, however, the only thing these sites really save you is time. There is something to be said for making the process of finding the best price more convenient, but you can save much more by taking the time to do your own comparison and booking directly with your choice accommodations.

It is incredibly easy to log on to a site and quickly see how much different lodgings cost, and it is not a bad place to start when looking for the best deal either. After you narrow your search down though, you should call to book directly instead of going through the website. There are a couple of reasons why this will often get you a lower price.

First, you are saving the hotel money. That's right. By going through them directly instead of a broker website, they do not have to pay the site a commission for the sale. As a result, they may be willing to pass some of those savings on to you. It really is win-win.

Second, this allows you to negotiate on price. Even if you are satisfied with the quote online, it never hurts to ask for a better discount. Remember, the answer is always "no" unless you ask! Hotels often reserve their best rooms or lowest prices from these websites in order to maintain price parity. All you have to do to get around that though is ask.

Never stop at calling just your first choice either, no matter how good of a deal they give you. Get your second and third choice hotels on the phone afterwards and use their first quote to get them competing against each other.

Being flexible both on where you stay and when you stay can save you loads as well. Picking a location that is a little farther out instead of the high rise right downtown, will certainly lower your rate. Checking in and checking out on less busy days will further reduce your costs. When you call, just ask what the cheapest day to arrive or depart is. You may find that by extending or shortening your stay by one day can greatly change your nightly rate.

Take your flexibility to the next level by traveling during the off-season. My wife and I discovered an unforeseen benefit of a November anniversary when looking to celebrate in the Caribbean. By going before Thanksgiving we found that we could book fantastic resorts for hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars less than we would be able to just two weeks later in December.

Another thing you can do is to ask about what service or amenities are included with your stay. Sometimes, paying a little bit more per night may actually be offset by things like paid-for parking or a free airport shuttle.

Convenience is great and websites that allow you to easily check the prices at many different hotels is a wonderful service. However, those quotes are not written in stone. By picking up the phone and doing a little old school negotiating, you can save even more than the best online prices.

Many people approach the selection of their marriage venue with a great deal of understandable care and attention.

Quite often a lot of the emphasis is placed on whether or not the location 'feels right' in emotional terms. So, visual attractiveness, scenery and good basic facilities are usually high on the priority list of most couples checking out wedding venues.

Sometimes though, certain practicalities can get lost in the sense of place that is important when thinking about the emotional side of the service. So, even if it sounds a little cold and calculating, it's important to make your decision based as much on an evaluation of the head as that of the heart.

So, here are a few basic checklist type points that you might want to think about when considering a venue for your big day.

1. Visibility. During the service itself, your guests will typically want to see the soon-to-be married couple. So, a location which has an elevated platform where the service will be conducted will be advantageous - unless you want some of your guests standing on the chairs to try and see what's going on. If you have a very large service, consider having some sort of video display for guests at the rear anyway.

2. Space. If you are planning a service inside, make sure that the room is large enough to comfortably handle your number of guests. Jamming people into a room like sardines in a tin simply generates heat and discomfort - not quite the ambiance you might be planning.

3. Audibility. Don't forget to ensure that there is some sort of voice amplification to the whole room or your guests at the back won't be able to hear the vows and the key moment of marriage itself.

4. Comfort. This shouldn't be an issue for most professional venue providers but even so, make sure that the chairs are comfortable and sensibly spaced to avoid fidgeting.

5. Children's facilities. Let's be frank, babies and very young children can be a major challenge during a wedding service. You probably won't want screaming children running around and drowning out the most precious moments of your day. Consider whether your venue has the possibility of offering a separate play area or crèche for younger children, under supervision, just for the duration of the service itself.

6. Music. Make sure that in the room has excellent quality speakers and related facilities. There's little point spending a lot of time selecting the right music for your service if it comes out sounding tinny and crackly.

7. Visibility during receptions. The same issues relating to visibility and audibility apply here too. Guests on tables towards the rear ideally need to be able to see and hear the 'top table' for things such as speeches etc.

8. Staffing levels. This is particularly important during the reception, as it won't impress your guests at the rear of the room to see the top table dining happily while they're waiting 30 minutes for each course to arrive. Make sure that there is a waiter allocated to each table and that food will be served more or less simultaneously.

Some of the above things may be obvious, others perhaps less so.

One memory you won't want to have of your wedding day is when one or more of the above things goes wrong or you hear people quietly moaning to each other behind their hands.

So, check these things are carefully when you are looking at wedding venues.

Websites that compare the prices of multiple hotels seem to provide great deals. In truth, however, the only thing these sites really save you is time.
